The Minnesota chocolate cake was a recipe from my Great Grandmother and who knows where she got the recipe from. The recipe originally had a chocolate coffee frosting, but some where down the road that recipe got lost and my family added the boiled milk frosting from my mother’s German side.
For this cake I first started by cooking flour and milk over a low heat until it was thick. I then chilled the milk mixture in the fridge overnight.

The next day I started on baking the cake. First I mixed together milk, vegetable oil, and lemon juice and set that aside. Then I mixed together the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and cocoa powder. I then mixed in eggs and the milk mixture. I slowly then streamed in hot coffee and beat for two minutes. I poured the mix into a baking pan and placed it in the oven.
While the cake was cooling, I finished making the frosting. I first creamed together butter and sugar until it looked like whipped cream. Then I added some vanilla and the chilled boiled milk, which I had made the night before, and mixed everything together. Once the cake was cool enough, I frosted the cake.
