  • Duck eggs! Farm fresh!

Every meal over the camping adventure weekend held at least one ingredient that was locally sourced.

This weeks journey was dedicated to my father- Leo E. Figueiredo (4/8/44-5/14/21) aka “Turtle”

  • Breakfast: Campfire toast
  • Rhubarb, fresh from a local farm, so delicious…
  • Apricots
  • Strawberries
  • Sour dough bread, from San Francisco Street Bakery, Olympia, Wa

My afternoon delight- Hama Hama Oysters- Did you know that raw oysters can change your mood. Oysters are high in zinc and send a signal to the brain that releases dopamine.

The book Professor Williams highly suggested that i have been influenced by the knowledge for educational purposes. Jonathan Silvertown is reaching souls with his insight on evolution and nature versus nurture.

While camping at Jarrell Cove State Park I noticed the beauty of the water, but also the warning signs that were on the beach. The warning signs definitely got my attention because I am a “seafoodie.” My whole life was influenced by food especially seafood. Being raised by fisherman and as a kid I had no fear of food or of anything for that matter. The cove is a salt water green, but it was so shallow while the tide was out and exposed a beach that was and is dying. The climate changes are showing the extremes along the Olympic Peninsula and the wildlife is suffering. I found hope on this journey of change by learning about the benefits of shellfish and close related consuming shellfish brings me to the table with my ancestors. This week I started reading the book, Dinner With Darwin, written by: Jonathan Silvertown- the chapters unfold the language of evolution with the food humans consumed throughout time. When I am the peninsula I find my soul, I connect to the barnacles beneath my feet and feel the sunshine kiss my face and I am surrounded by spirit, a living, breathing, resilient masterpiece that needs our help. Where do I begin?
