What does it look like to be a writer? What qualifications do I have to call myself a writer and who wants to read my work? Am I a writer because I write, or because someone reads what I put on the page?

“If you really want to write and you’re struggling to get started, you’re afraid of something. What is that fear?” – Margaret Atwood
This quote from Margaret Atwood struck me. I am afraid. Who am I to be the person who travels and writes and has any place to share stories of my experiences and think anyone would be interested? And so I did as I do when I identify a fear that is holding me back – I continued forward with a plan. I created a writing practice. I started by reading what other writers that I admire suggest when it comes to their writing practice. Read and write – practice is the best way to begin.

I began a log to read and write daily. This allowed me to read some of the books I have had on my reading list for a long time which was wonderful. I spent time free writing after each of my reading days and week by week I increased the amount of time I read and wrote.
