I was expecting to see Toshi Reagan’s adaptation of Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower. The book was insightful and fascinating, yet the presentation lacked this depth. Apparently the Butler Foundation has restricted the use of her works publicly, which to me seems antithetical to Octavia Butler’s living intentions and philosophies.

Thus, I was pretty frustrated by the inability for the presenters to share the actual performance due to these foundation restrictions. Instead they showed a very minimal and contentless summary video and had an awkward Q&A which predicated the viewer had previously seen the single in person performance, which I had not. So although I was excited for this event I got very little out of it. The most meaningful part of this presentation was my observations of the books on the shelf behind Toshi, pointing me toward some great books to later explore.

Image not included because presenters asked no pictures be taken due to aforementioned Butler Foundation restrictions.
