Narrative:
This in program ILC titled Plucked from the Earth, will be focusing on foraging different edible plants, flora, and fungi and using them to cook meals based on celebrating the growth of new life in the Pacific Northwest.
The main objectives for this project will be learning to properly forage and identify different specifies of edible plants, and how to create mainly foraged meals that are just as satisfying and more nutritious than food purchased at the store.
Activities will include: harvesting different vegetation in the forests of Olympia, creating three separate meals with the foraged food, writing poetry, researching native history and analyzing different species of plants.
The meals created will incorporate a foraged herbal tea with a main dish. Experience from working at Encore Chocolates and Tea will be beneficial to creating herbal tea blends focused on Pacific Northwest flora.
Completed posts will be documented on WordPress with weekly blog style entries including photography.
The entries will cover the health benefits of each plant, poetry about foraging in Olympia in Spring, an introduction to native plant history, and individual species analysis.
Progress will be evaluated based on the hours of completed work (excel log) as well as the quality of each entry on the WordPress ePortfolio.
