Which I\u2019m titling \u201crainy days on the radicchio farm\u201d in order to answer the program question what representations of terroir\/merroir are most compelling and why? As we look at this scene David is giving a tour of the farm and describing the terroir\/merroir of the radicchio. He starts out the scene by going in depth about the different radicchios he\u2019s growing and shows us along with describing the radicchio and the variety he has left. At the end he talks about the varieties he chose. Getting to the end he talks about using them in a recipe as the scene after that he\u2019s going to his nonnas house to cook together. Some of the most compelling representations of terroir and merroir in this scene is the way he describes the variety and diversity the different types of radicchio has along with the different climates it can grow in, the size of them, and the different harvesting times among the radicchio types. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_AR155DUxZc\">HISTORY of radicchio with&nbsp;<strong>Andrea Ghedina<\/strong>&nbsp;of Smarties.bio<\/a>&nbsp;(68 min)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Xxnx3bkY-8c\">FORCING TECHNIQUES with Uprising Seeds \/ Wild Roots \/ Local Roots&nbsp;<\/a>(79 min)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MJZbHjVoDBI\">COOKING with Italian farmer&nbsp;<strong>Davide Zimolo<\/strong>&nbsp;and his nonna<\/a>&nbsp;(70 min)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UWzpwsi9wwE&amp;t=22s\">COOKING Radicchio di Treviso Marinato and Radicchio Pizza with&nbsp;<strong>Cathy Whims<\/strong>&nbsp;of Nostrana<\/a>&nbsp;(68 min)<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/osborne%20seed%20%26%20the%20crows%20farm%2C%20late%20season%20variety%20trials\/\">LATE SEASON VARIETY TRIALS with Linda Fenstermaker of&nbsp;<strong>Osborne Quality Seeds<\/strong>&nbsp;and radicchio growers Matthew &amp; Giana of&nbsp;<strong>The Crow\u2019s Farm<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>#5b: (un)Natural Histories<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li> The most fertile topsoil is entirely gone from a third of all the land devoted to growing crops across the upper Midwest, the scientists say <\/li><li> Soil scientists call this layer the &#8220;A-horizon.&#8221; It&#8217;s the &#8220;black, organic, rich soil that&#8217;s really good for growing crops,&#8221; says&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geo.umass.edu\/people\/evan-thaler\">Evan Thaler<\/a>, a Ph.D. student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. <\/li><li> Plowing, though, released much of the trapped carbon, and topsoil was also lost to wind and water erosion. It is important for people to protect the soil, their agriculture, and the environment because the collapse of soil leads to the collapse of human culture, civilization, livelihood, and health <\/li><li>  The GAIA means an organism that has the function of auto-matically adjusting the equilibrium state of the earth as a whole, that is, the earth is a huge living body.
