Film Seminar Response: W1, “Gather” (Sanjay Rawal, dir.; 75 min; 2020)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

 I have chosen 00:45:20  to 00:47:05 from the film \u201cGather\u201d , which I\u2019m titling \u201cHealing Traditions\u201d in order to explore the programs question: \u201cWhy are matters of taste both objective (based on evolutionary processes and scientific facts) and subjective \u2013 based on your experience of what you think, feel, sense, and believe?\u201c. One key thing I want to point out to my peers is the uncensored, yet somehow respectful death of a field rat as a food source for the local tribespeople. Scenes such as this can either result in a peak of curiosity, or a loss of someone\u2019s lunch; not to mention the consumption of a rodent is something that many would find grotesque. I think that this difference of translation teaches us that not only taste, but the process involved in achieving taste, is extremely subjective. Our openness to taste and processes of achieving taste are almost completely dependent upon the subjective lives that we have had; our experiences, the ways we were raised\u2026 even the way that we prefer our food prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
