Total of 20 petri dishes.<\/li><li>Place equal sized filter paper pieces in the bottom of each petri dish. Each filter paper should cover the bottom surface area of each dish.   <\/li><li>Dampen each filter paper by pouring 1 Tablespoon of deionized H<sub>2<\/sub>0 in each petri dish. Swirl each dish so water is evenly coated and let sit to absorb for a few seconds.<\/li><li>Evenly place each seed group(s) in trays, making sure there is no overlapping. <\/li><li>Moisten specimens with 1 T DI water per petri dish &amp; record data every other day. <\/li><li>Record code data for seeds in each sample every other day. Code description will be marked per all 20 seeds. Afterward, average each petri dish sample codes as percentages. <\/li><li><em>When radicle is present, <\/em>measure radicle length in mm &#8211; from the initial protrusion on the seed to the tip of the root. <\/li><li>Take a photo and\/or draw each code stage. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted has-light-gray-background-color has-background\">In our meeting this week, it's been decided that we'd like to begin our germination chamber study during week 8. We've established access to a growth chamber for 20 petri dishes with the generosity of faculty Robin Morgan, as well as filter paper and reused petri dishes in coordination with Diane Nelson at the SCC. Although, I hoped to begin this study sooner, defining the details and gaining tangible access is an ongoing process.      <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2>BBCH SCALE <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>&#8220;The extended BBCH-scale is a system for a uniform coding of phenologically similar growth stages of all mono- and dicotyledonous plant species.<br>It results from teamwork between the German Federal Biological Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (BBA), the German Federal Office of Plant Varieties (BSA), the German Agrochemical Association (IVA) and the Institute for Vegetables and Ornamentals in Grossbeeren\/Erfurt, Germany (IGZ). The decimal code, which is divided into principal and secondary growth stages, is based on the well-known cereal code developed by ZADOKS et al. These specified stages and descriptors contribute to an effort towards defining a standardized language for measuring phenological habits of plant species. This is especially relevant to the &#8216;Gilo&#8217; study, considering there is minimal phenological documentation and public databases on <em>Solanum aetheopicum<\/em>.
