Program of Project Description
Narrative:
This contract titled Internship at Piece By Piece Farm will provide the student with opportunities to refine practical experience working on an established certified organic market farm. This internship is designed to give the student a space to reflect on and document their learnings from a real world experience of working on a local market farm that prizes providing high quality food to their community as well as passionately stewarding the land with respect and care.
To achieve these goals, the student will work on the farm site collaboratively with their field supervisor and crew members to maintain the eight acre organic vegetable farm through: harvesting and tending crops, weed, pest, and irrigation management, soil and bed preparation, and processing of produce for markets, as well as completing other farm projects as needed. The student will also use the text Agroecology: Leading the Transformation to a Just and Sustainable Food System, by Stephen R. Gliessman as a relevant reference for organic science and sustainable farming practices to supplement their on site learning when independent research is warranted.
The student will document progress through weekly summaries of learning and field practices that will be published alongside photos, work logs, and other relevant information on a WordPress site.
