ILC

Program of Project Description

Narrative: In this Capstone ILC project titled “Lustful Eating: Food, Consumption, Sex, and Pleasure ” the student will explore intersections of sex, food, eating, consumption, erotica, and pleasure. What is it about a good meal that makes your mouth water and your eyes widen in the same way you may be exited for your lover to come home? What is it about our human desire and attraction to one another that mirrors the passionate desire we feel to consume good food? The student will work with a wide variety of sources from both academic, and non-academic backgrounds to gain a deep and well-rounded understanding of how pleasure informs human consumption. The student will explore the personal and social factors that contribute to our desires, cravings, and attractions and the ways in which hunger for food and hunger for sex overlap and combine. These sources will include poetry by famed author Charles Simic whose works highlight food and human sexuality, photography projects by Sarah Lucas that capture relationships between the self, sexuality, and consumption, and academic papers such as “Food Words: Sex” by Angela Qian and “Aesthetics of Food Porn” by Uka Tooming. The student will also create a portfolio of works demonstrating the progress of their ILC’s across their time as an Evergreen student, utilizing the metaphors and design thinking in Jenea Cohen’s Skim, Dive, Surface the student will collect and reflect upon their best work and the change in their academic questioning over the years. Finally, the student will support students in the Land Based Learning program as needed to further their skills in teaching and communications.
