Program of Project Description
Description:
This single quarter contract, titled Place-Based Thinking in a Community Garden, is designed to connect students and community members to the Evergreen State College Community Gardens, as well as compile the history of the Community Garden Spaces. Students will source historical documents relevant to the Community Gardens, create and maintain a website dedicated to the Community Gardens’ past, present, and future, and connect the Evergreen community to the gardens through place-based observational thinking, creative group problem solving, adaptive communication, co-coordination of community gardening spaces, and reciprocity within nature and community.
To achieve these goals, students will work collaboratively with co-coordinators, peers, and community to understand and help meet individual and collective needs relating to food, land connection, and community spaces. Students will work to build a S.C.A.R.F community garden website with historical and current data to better connect students to garden spaces.
Students will document progress through photo documentation of practice in the field, individual work logs, and website completion.
Texts for the program include: Sowing Seeds in the Desert: Natural Farming, Global Restoration, and Ultimate Food Security by Masanobu Fukuoka
