The student will use multiple genres of fictional literature books including general fiction, horror, romance, and children&#8217;s fiction to build an annotated list of books that demonstrate different examples of these relations.\u00a0 Books will include &#8220;Tender is the Flesh&#8221; by Augustina Bazterrica, &#8220;Cinnamon and Gunpowder&#8221; by Eli Brown, &#8220;The Joy Luck Club&#8221; by Amy Tan, &#8220;Love and saffron&#8221; by Kim Fay, and &#8220;Like Water for Chocolate&#8221; by Laura Esquivel. This contract aims to both further the students learnings within food studies, while also learning to apply fictional texts in a research setting. The student will also utilize hypothes.is to research public reaction, media adaptations, and current and past events that may have inspired the writings. Every week the student will make a written post on a WordPress to document the weeks work.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objective <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To consume multiple texts of fictional literature across many genres that concern food, culture, and wellbeing. To further my knowledge of food-related media as well as explore the public reception to it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Activity<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will read a new fiction book relating to food,\u00a0culture, and well-being. I will also research any real events that may have inspired the book, public reactions, screen adaptations, and any general societal reactions to the text, and compare it to my own reaction to the texts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objective <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To further my practices using Hypothes.is while researching reactions to the book, and to support other students learning the software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Activity <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will annotate my research using the hypothes.is software, and continue to support Sarah Williams&#8217;s program when requested.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Description In this program\u00a0Consuming Fictional Literature Surrounding Food, Culture, and Well-Being\u00a0the student will explore intersections between food, culture, and well-being as presented through fictional literature.
